I've been using it for over five or six years now, I think, and I even work it into projects when I work at studios. It's the best modeling and UVing tool on the market. As far as game animation goes, it's good enough for most situations (although as much as I love it, I'm feeling chafed by its constraint system it's nowhere near as powerful as Maya), and the best part is it'll always be there for you. If you learn Blender today, you won't have to worry that it doesn't run on Windows 9. I'm sure there'll be a build ready for download. If you are going to go the Blender route, I highly recommend the books by Tony Mullen, as he's an excellent writer and covers a lot of stuff. However, for beginnings I'd try to walk through as much of the Blender Noob to Pro stuff on the Wiki. It looks bad but gets you through the basics. If you still can't get over the UI, wait a few months for 2.5 to hit. It's still in the early stages but the new UI shows promise. Remember in the end that it's not about what's the best software, but what's best for you and your budget. As far as budget goes nothing can beat Blender, but the UI isn't for everyone.Unity supports textured 3D models from a variety of programs or sources. Set your system and project units for your software to work consistently with Unity e.g.This short guide has been put together by games artists with developers at Unity, to help you create assets that work better and more efficiently in your Unity project. Working to scale can be important for both lighting and physics simulation.Be aware that, for example, the Max system unit default is inches and Maya is centimetres.
